Migraine treatment

Many of us think of Botox injections as a way to help conceal the visible signs of ageing. But Botox has its roots in treating a range of medical conditions and is now used as a preventative for chronic migraine.


In a gold standard medical study – the PREEMPT trial concluded that treating chronic migraine with Botox reduced the number of migraine days and reduced headache-related disability. Following this, Botox was approved for use in chronic migraine in Australia in 2011.


Botox works to gradually decrease the frequency and severity of migraine headaches, and for many people it’s an effective treatment that improves their quality of life.


Bruxism

If you tend to grind your teeth, you have a condition called bruxism. This involuntary behavior can be quite debilitating and may even cause jaw pain, headaches, the wearing away of tooth enamel, gum sensitivity, or chipped teeth.


Recent studies published in well-known medical journals Neurology and Pain Research and Management have shown that botulinum toxin’s muscle-relaxing properties are effective in stopping jaw clenching and teeth grinding.


Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating, affects about 1% of the population. This is usually noticed in the armpits and palms.


It affects both males and females, usually starts in teenage years or early adulthood and may run in some families. Although antiperspirants can help most people control wetness and odour in these areas, for some, the continual stream of sweat is embarrassing and quite debilitating.


Botox therapy has been very successful in controlling sweating from these localized areas and lasts an average of just under 8 months.
